August Newsletter

The heat is here!  It’s a great time to pick up a few good books (we have plenty) and a glass of cold iced tea.  Summer is a slow time for authors to publish new books so we don’t have many new ones.  This a good time for us to purchase other types of materials.  We just received 28 new large print books.  Many of them are Christian fiction, but some are westerns.  We have also ordered some new audio books for those of you who prefer to listen to stories.

This is also a good time to talk about some of our other services that we don’t talk about too much.  We are a drop off point for the Thayer Christian Preschool’s “Cash – Not Trash” program.  We have lists available of what types of materials the school recycles for money.  We also collect “Box Tops for Education” coupons for the Thayer School.  Both of these programs help the schools stretch their budgets.  We have a jigsaw puzzle exchange.  Bring in puzzle and take a different home with you.  We provide free information on exercise, social services, and financial literacy. We answer reference questions and help people with genealogy searches.  We have a laminator and a portable scanner.  Come in and see all we have to offer.

The Summer Reading Program is in full swing.  We love seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces when they check out books.  They have checked and read so many this summer.  Many of the children have already reached the goal of 20 books, but they keep on reading!  Our last reading celebration for the summer reading program will be Thursday, August 17 at 3 pm.  All participants are encouraged to attend.  We will be handing out prizes to everyone who makes the goal.

Stay cool.  Read a book or two and come see us!
