December 2017 Newsletter

The library is very happy to announce that we will once again host the Christmas Angel Tree.  Local children who need a little extra this Christmas are available for those who would like to help.  The angels and the sign-up sheet are at the library.  Also, we will be happy to accept the wrapped gifts when purchased.  This is such a festive time of year, and it feels so good to spread the cheer.  The angels are adopted very quickly, so don’t delay.

In October, we were very fortunate to receive a grant from the Southeast Kansas Library System.  We plan to use the money to purchase TV series seasons.  These are very popular so we will ask that patrons limit their check out to one season at a time.  We will be rearranging the display shelves at the library soon to make room for all of the new DVD’s.  Speaking of DVD’s, we have a large number of them overdue right now.  Almost 80% of the overdue items are DVD’s.  We don’t charge fines for overdue materials because we don’t want to discourage people from checking out items.  We do expect people to return the items that they borrow.  When items are not returned, we have to spend our money to replace them and we don’t have money to buy new ones.  Sometimes these items are borrowed from other libraries which means we have to pay them for their stolen materials.  Please double-check to see if you have unreturned DVD’s and return them.  You can always drop them in the drop box on the east side of the building if we are not open.

November is a big month for new books.  If you have a favorite author or authors, we are sure to have the latest book.  We have too many to list here individually.  The library also will place a hold on any book that you may want to read.  Just call and ask or stop by.  You can also use the online catalog to order it yourself.  Please ask if you need help.

We replaced our printer/copier.  We apologize for any inconvenience.  As always, we offer computer access, free Wi-Fi, and fax machine.

Have a great holiday season!
