Welcome to the New Year everyone. We are happy to announce that we have added another hour to our schedule at the library. We will now be open until 6 pm on Tuesday evenings! We are doing everything we can to provide service to all Thayer residents, even those who work until 5.
Several patrons have asked us about offering a basic computer class. We will be starting such a class Tuesday, January 9th at 5 pm. The class will last 8 weeks. We are limiting the class to 10 participants but is open to any resident. Each student will have to bring a flash drive to class. Flash drives can be purchased at the library. The topics covered during the 8 weeks include; terminology and navigation, email, web browsers, word processing, images, file management, Excel spreadsheets, and printing. Participants are welcome to bring a laptop computer with them or use our computers. Many of the topics are applicable to tablets, also. This class is not graded or official, but we will try to make it fun!
We have added many new TV series seasons to our DVD collection. We ask that patrons limit the number of DVD check outs to 5 and only 1 TV series season at a time. When we have so many new offerings, they are very popular. We want everyone to have a chance to view them. If you have overdue DVD’s, please remember that you can return them to the book drop even when the library is closed. We do not charge fines so there is no need to come in to make your return. We can’t purchase new materials when we have to replace items that are not returned. We make purchases based on the belief that these materials will be popular with many people, but many people can’t view them if they aren’t brought back to the library. This not a small problem. Currently, there are 59 overdue DVD’s. We would like to see that number decrease.
Thanks to the generous people of Thayer, all of the angels from the angel tree were adopted by December 11th. We sure enjoy hosting the tree and look forward to doing so next year. We also enjoyed making the two goodie bags for the Thayer Christmas Drawing. What a neat idea for bringing the community together. We hope you had a joyous holiday season and we wish you all a very happy 2018!
